Ryder has been on rice cereal and mommy's milk for almost 2 weeks now. His pediatrician told us to wait about 2 weeks and then we could start him on some fruits and veggies. I am taking some inspiration from another excellent mommy :) and making Ryder's baby food. I bought a little recipe book with different fruit and veggie purees for baby. It is actually a pretty neat book it starts with baby's first foods and goes all the way to 7 years old. One of the first puree recipes is for PEARS, so at the grocery store last night I picked up a couple of organic pears and prepared them and stuck the portions in the freezer. Everyone has told me not to give him the fruits first, but to start with the veggies, so hopefully I did not make a mistake. We fed him the pears today when I got home from work. At first I think he thought it was a little weird, but after he got used to it he LOVED it and gobbled it up!
I guess it's OK.....
I want another bite....
Oh yeah this is YUMMY....
All Done ! ! ! ! ! !
For those of you who live on the "west side" there is an event going on at Park West (101 & Northern). It looks like it will be pretty fun. They have it once a month and it is this Saturday. It is an organic farmers market and the flyer advertises live music, petting zoo, face painting, story time, and homemade goodies and crafts. I am planning on going and getting lots of yummy fruits and veggies to make more baby food ! ! !
HI LISA!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very fun event!!!
We have a farm out here, we can go to and pick our own fruits and veggies, all organic of course!!!And it's only $1.50 per pound what ever you pick!!! Glad you decided to make your own,not only is it fresh and good for them, it is actually so MUCH cheaper!!!! A jar of organic baby food is about .85 cents, to make homemade, and a full ice cube tray of bananas is about $1.00 and that is 12 servings!!!
Love,
jamie
So glad that I inspired you!:) It has been truly awesome knowing that Miss C has been getting homemade/organic food. It does get trickier once you start on meats.....if you do get some store bought food we like Earth's best the most. It seems easiest for when you are out and about in the jars!:) As for giving him pears first, I think that is just fine. We started with avocado's, bananas, sweet potatoes and pears. They say pears and avocado are easily digestible, you know how the cereal messes with their little belly's! Oh yeah.....try the Earth's best baby oatmeal, we have been giving Cam that instead of cereal pretty much from the beginning too. Again, it is SO much nicer to their tummy's! Good luck with the baby food making...it is well worth it all around!
